We hope your district will participate in the 2019 Signature Project Contest and Recognition Program by submitting the best signature project in your district. The contest gives Kiwanis — and clubs and districts — an opportunity to showcase a project that makes a difference in the community while providing ideas and inspiration to other clubs.
The submission deadline is 5 p.m. EST on March 4, 2019. Winners of the Signature Project Contest will be recognized during the 2019 Kiwanis International Convention at Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida.
As in past years, each participating district will hold its own selection process to decide which club project to submit. New this year, Kiwanis International will provide district secretaries with an access code for the online submission form. This will prevent multiple submissions from a district. The online form should take fewer than 20 minutes to complete — and can be completed by anyone assigned by the district secretary. If more than one submission should come from a district, the first submission will be considered the official submission.
A definition of signature projects and the criteria is available online. Ultimately, a signature project is a recurring vivid demonstration of a Kiwanis club’s impact in its community. It can be anything from playground construction and park cleanup to festivals and fundraisers.
To prepare for your district’s submission, read the questions on the online submission form in advance in this document. The submission form is here.
In 2018, the top three winners were the Down Syndrome Foundation-National Centre in Kuala Lumpur in the Malaysia District; the Kiwanis Special Games hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Los Altos in the California-Nevada-Hawaii District and a book projectsponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Varese in the Italy-San Marino District. All the winners and finalists from the contests in 2017 and 2018 are archived online.
Here’s an overview of the contest’s submission process:
- Submissions must be made by 5 p.m. EST on Monday, March 4, 2019. Any submissions received after the deadline will not be advanced to the judges.
- Ten finalists will be selected by the Kiwanis International Committee on Public Relations, Image and Marketing. The finalists will be announced before early convention registration ends, giving every winner an opportunity to attend the 2019 Kiwanis International Convention at the reduced rate. All top 10 finalists will receive a certificate recognizing their achievements.
- The top three winners (gold, silver and bronze) will be selected by the committee, and three additional judges who represent Kiwanis International partner affiliates. The gold, silver and bronze prize winners will be announced at an event at convention, and at the closing session of the Kiwanis International convention on Saturday, June 29. The gold, silver and bronze winners receive a plaque.
